What We Do

Every person has the right to best achievable health but the medical profession is not meeting this requirement due to a lack of appropriate training. Here is how we are improving equity of care for 3.5 million people in the UK.

We advocate for a Rare Aware approach to education for all medical professionals

  • Working with Government, universities, Royal Colleges and NHS organisations to help them understand the problem and solution
  • Running an awareness campaign for Rare Disease Day aimed at healthcare organisations and workforce
  • Collaborating with global stakeholders to perform research and raise the profile of the rare disease community
  • Communicate our messages via the Rare Disease Podcast and social media

We design and deliver Rare Aware training that transforms clinical practice

  • Co-creating Rare Aware courses and training materials for doctors with the rare community
  • Delivering in-person and online training to groups of medical professionals
  • Providing free online training for healthcare professionals
  • Defining a standard of excellence in Rare Aware medical training

We are building a global network of Rare Aware healthcare professionals and advocates

  • Running an Ambassador Programme to grow future generations of Rare Aware advocates
  • Collaborating with experts who can shape and support our advocacy and training activities
  • Connecting with healthcare professionals globally to share our Rare Aware approach
